Keeping a Note on This One for Later

Five minutes spent assessing a game produces figures that will be gone within a fortnight. Writing them down converts a one-off exercise into something that accumulates, and what to write is less obvious than it sounds because the temptation is to record the wrong things.

What not to record

Whether the game felt generous. That is a property of a two-hundred-round sample rather than of the game, it will contradict itself next session, and it will mislead whoever reads the note later — which is you, with the sample forgotten and the conclusion retained.

Also not worth recording: the return percentage on its own, since it sits in the same narrow band as every other title and therefore never discriminates between them.

What to record

Six figures. Symbol ratio, feature type, trigger requirement, spin count, round duration and hourly cost at your usual stake. All six are fixed properties of the build, all remain true indefinitely, and together they describe what a session will be like more completely than any review does.

The format

One line per game in a plain text file, which searches in seconds and survives a browser clearing itself. Where the figures came from a directory listing such as DemoSlotVibe, note that too, since knowing where the panel was read matters when a game ships in several mathematical configurations and the deployment differs by operator.

Add one field the specifications never contain: whether it suited you, and why. Not whether it paid, but whether the rhythm matched what you wanted from an evening. That is the only subjective entry worth keeping because it is a fact about you rather than about the sample.

  • Record six structural figures plus the hourly cost
  • Note which site the panel was read on
  • Add whether the rhythm suited you, not whether it paid
  • Keep it in plain text outside the browser
  • Leave out impressions of generosity entirely

What the file becomes

After a dozen entries it sorts by symbol ratio into a personal map of the market, and the next decision takes thirty seconds instead of five minutes. After fifty entries the studios separate visibly into design positions, and new releases can be placed against known patterns before being opened.

The compounding part

Effort per game stays flat while the file’s usefulness grows, because each new entry has more context to be compared against. That is unusual — most research decays — and it happens here only because the underlying figures are fixed for the life of a build.

What it is ultimately for

Choosing deliberately. The alternative is arriving at a lobby with no notes, being presented with whatever is promoted, and opening something because it looked appealing. The file replaces that with a two-line lookup, which is the whole return on the habit.
